GULF COAST, Fla. — A mako shark caught by a man named Joey Polk measured in at 11-feet and in the neighborhood of 800 pounds. TV station WFTV reports that Polk and his cousins reeled in the massive catch off the Gulf Coast.
The lifelong fisherman said he never anticipated such a catch, but didn’t let any go to waste, sharing pounds of the shark meat with other people in his community. He said the exact location of the catch is a closely guarded secret.
“These are spots that have been handed down from our grandfathers to our dads to us. We like to keep it a secret. Maybe one day I can pass it down to my kids,” Polk said to WFTV.
