OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- In a formal ceremony on Thursday, Overland Park Police placed a wreath at the Deanna Rose Children's Farmstead to pay tribute to their fallen comrade.

Deanna Rose was killed on Jan. 26, 1985 when an intoxicated driver ran her over trying to avoid arrest.

Officer Rose is the only Overland Park police officer, and the first woman officer in the State of Kansas, to die in the line of duty.

She received an award for valor posthumously from the Kansas Association of Chiefs of Police.

The City of Overland Park dedicated the 12-acre Children's Farmstead in 1985 in her honor.
