Nancy Opel returns to Kansas City

Nancy Opel grew up in Prairie Village and Leawood, graduated from Shawnee Mission East High School and The University of Kansas and studied drama at Juilliard. She got her start in theatre at age 16 appearing in the SME high school production of The Boy Friend, then appearing in local KC theatres and on to Broadway.

She is in Kansas City to do a special MASTER CLASS program hosted by the Barn Players at The Barn Players Theatre.

She has received many honors and awards and was nominated for a Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical for her part in Urinetown on Broadway.  She has also been featured on TV shows including Law and Order and all my children.

She recently starred as Dolly in the production of Hello Dolly at Ford's Theatre in Washington DC receiving rave reviews --- '.. a virtuoso performance, she is the living, breathing heart of the production' and her performance contains 'a specific kind of magic'.

Leaving Kansas City she'll return to NYC to star in the new Broadway production, Cinderella. She will replace Fran Drescher in the role of Madame.
