KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Dental care for children is a luxury many families simply can’t afford. During the month of June, the Kansas City Health Department is offering free dental care for kids who don’t have insurance.

Pediatric dental care was supposed to be a benefit under Obamacare, but there was a change in rules. But during the month of June, many of those families can get free dental care for their kids.

“This is a great opportunity for the Health Department to offer another needed service to the public in a central location through a partnership with HOPE Dental,” said Jelene Wynn, RN, public health nurse supervisor.

Services are available Monday through Friday, at the Health Department, located at 2400 Troost Ave., Suite 1400. Individuals must make an appointment. To schedule an appointment, please call HOPE Dental at 816-679-2198.

HOPE stands for Heartland Outreach Providers: Excellent Care in Mobile Dentistry.

So what about the people that DO pay their insurance premiums and work and still can’t afford the procedures? Oh, that’s right. We don’t care about people who TRY. We only care about the people who don’t make X amount of money. I think people are forgetting that there are many people that don’t qualify for Medicaid because they are actually trying to make a living but still can’t afford the insurance/procedures. THAT is who we should be helping.

So the kids with parents that DO work and try hard but “make too much” to be on Medicaid but can’t afford insurance/procedures should just go without? No one cares about the middle class, only the rich and the poor.

I agree T. I just had a friend call and ask because she is in the gap as well. She makes $20 more than Medicaid will accept and I had shared this because I thought it was those people that could benefit from this! I am a dental hygienist and work in public health. Believe me, there are so many places children can get dental free when they are in Medicaid. There is really no need to advertise this if that is what this is for. All kids are covered on Medicaid, Affordable Care Act or not. In other words, I do this everyday where I work. This would not really be free service, the place will get a good reimbursement from the government on the treatment they do on these kids. You may look up Team Smiles. There is one coming up for the Royals July 18th. It’s a full day where we see all kids and do as much for them as possible. I have always been under the impression we are working on any child that comes in, they don’t have to be in Medicaid.

I have never seen so many miserable people always complaining about what they don’t have, can’t get and envious of what others. Be grateful for what you have and what’s to come. Be thankful that you can have insurance for your children. I’m happy that I don’t have to take my kids to free clinics. Yes some procedures are high, but nothing I can’t save up for. I’m happy that I strive daily to provide the best for my children. I’m also happy that there are programs and opportunities so children don’t have to go without. You have two options 1. Work and provide, if you don’t like your premiums find a better job that offers better benefits. 2. Sit on your rump or work minimum wage jobs so you can get free stuff. Otherwise stop complaining and start making YOUR life better.
