Hundreds of volunteers turn out to build playground in a day

More than 200 volunteers from Genesis Promise Academy, Barkley, organizers from KaBOOM and residents from a Kansas City community turned out to build a new playground at Genesis Promise Academy.

"It was a complete surprise to us, let me tell you," School Development Director Ann Spivak said. "We got a call from KaBOOM and they said we're going to build you a playground, and so we are just thrilled."

And not just any playground. When it's finished it will be more like a park.

"It means the world to the kids," Kissha Hood, mother, said. "To have to be indoors all day to come outside to let loose some of that energy and get back in and get to learning."
