Brooklyn, NY (WPIX) — Local leaders are expected to post a reward Monday for information leading to the arrest of a knife-wielding attacker who stabbed two children, killing one of them and leaving the other in a fight for her life.

The brutal assault happened shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday, police said.

A heavy-set man stabbed two children — a 6-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl — inside an elevator in the 800 block of Schenck Avenue, police said.

The boy, Prince Joshua Avitto, was pronounced dead at a hospital. The girl was taken to a hospital and remained in critical condition Monday.

Brooklyn Borough President Eric L. Adams plans to join anti-violence advocates at a 8 a.m. news conference Monday to offer a reward for tips that result in the capture of the man who killed Avitto and stabbed his friend.

Adams did not say how much the reward would be worth.

He reminded parents to be particularly cautious after a string of similar violence in the area.

Just two days before the children were attacked, an 18-year-old woman was stabbed several times in the 800 block of Stanley Avenue. Tanaya Copeland was pronounced dead at a hospital, police said.

No arrests have been made in either case.
