KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Just after midnight on Monday a police report describes that Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Sean Smith lost control of his vehicle and struck a light pole at the intersection of 12th and Grand. When officers responded, the report says that Smith appeared confused and was mumbling incomprehensible statements.
Smith refused medical attention and was placed under arrest. He was booked for three citations that included DUI, careless driving and driving without insurance.
Police say the pole that Smith struck was hit so hard that it was broken and ended up on the sidewalk. The vehicle also had major damage to both the front end and undercarriage.
Online court records indicate that Smith has already bonded out of jail after he was originally taken to police headquarters. Smith is entering his second season with the Chiefs after playing his first four with the Miami Dolphins. He started 15 games and accounted for 47 tackles and two interceptions in 2013, one that was returned for a touchdown.
