WASHINGTON — Officials say three planeloads of Americans are being evacuated from a major Iraqi air base in Sunni territory north of Baghdad to escape potential threats from a fast-moving insurgency.

A current U.S. official and a former senior Obama administration official say that means the American training mission at the air field in Balad has been grounded indefinitely.

Twelve U.S. personnel who were stationed at Balad were the first to be evacuated. Several hundred American contractors are still waiting to leave.

They have been training Iraqi forces to use fighter jets and surveillance drones.

Other U.S. contractors at a tank training ground in the city of Taji is still ongoing for now.

The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they refused to be named in discussing the sensitive situation.

The US needs to stay out of their conflicts. The middle east will continue to be involved in violent conflicts for the next century or more and the US should sit on the sidelines. We cannot win the war for them unless we occupy the country with a million of our troops. Besides, why are we the ones who are supposed to save their necks after they made it clear they didn’t want us there any longer?

John McCain has never seen a conflict he didn’t like. He must own a lot of stock in the military industrial complex because he is always looking to make sales even if the American taxpayers are the buyers and donors of weapons to places around the world. To John and others, the profit is the same regardless who is paying the bill.

You are so dead on it’s making the hairs stand up on the back of my neck. Also, in my opinion, this whole thing looks like another political stunt staged by the Republicans. See President Obama is a man of peace and the media is trying to make it look as if he is weak. The Republican House Speaker John Boehner has already made stupid comments about the president “taking a nap”. The Republican party loves war because it fattens the pockets of the rich. There is no doubt if we had a Republican president in office that we would have been over there yesterday. We all have been living in fear of another terrorist attack every since 9/11. So my comment is saying that the Republicans are setting a stage up to where we are in fear along with the cities that has been conquered over seas (human sacrifices from an American plot). If the drama spills over to America, then the Democrats will be held accountable for not doing anything to stop the militants. Then the American people will be led to vote Republican to feel safe that their newly elected Republican president is going to protect them. Can anyone say “PROPAGANDA”?
