KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- We're getting an up close look at a police chase crash that nearly killed a Kansas City, Mo. police officer. The crash injured several people and put a police officer in critical condition.

It all started when a man stole a car and fled in it, which started a police chase. The suspect in this is Domanic Grimes. Grimes was in the stolen Pontiac Grand Prix, driving in the wrong direction on a one-way and hit a patrol van in the area.

In the video you can see Grimes running from officers, the patrol van is smoking and overturned. Officer Brad Bailey was inside and suffered from serious brain injuries, but has since recovered.

“Personal opinions aside, I'm alive, I'm here, I'm able to go back to work and spend my days with my family and friends. I can't begin to describe the gratitude and thanks I have for them, and how blessed I am,” said Officer Bailey.

Grimes was sentenced to three years’ probation.
