KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The hottest tickets in town were punched at Kauffman Stadium Friday night. Television and movies stars, dollar hotdogs and as fans found their seats, the Royals entered the game in first place in the American League Central.
It was a hot afternoon and a warm night, but no one seemed to mind as they filed into the K a little early to see some famous hometown boys hang out with their hometown team.
It wouldn't be a Big Slick Celebrity weekend without seeing Paul Rudd yucking it up with Billy Butler on the field at the K. Rudd, Jason Sudeikis and Rob Riggle are all back home for a weekend of fun and fundraising.
After some pre game time on the field with the Royals the celebrities took center stage in the Little K for the fifth annual whiffle ball game. The pitching was horrendous, the fielding even worse. While they do keep score, the real winners are the fans.
“Paul Rudd, I'm a big Anchorman fan, so excited to see him” said Megan Becker of Overland Park.
“I'm excited to see like Dianna Agron, Weird Al is pretty funny, Jason Sudeikis, local people, cool to see bunch of people here,” said Alyssa Phelps, also from Overland Park.
In addition to seeing the whiffle ball game, fans were sticking around for the real game. The Royals returned to Kansas City in first place, and even though they suffered a setback Friday night in a loss to the Mariners, the club’s recent success has many people excited.
“I couldn't be more thrilled about the fact the Royals are in first place, tonight going out to Royals’ stadium, it's going to be sold out! Royals’ stadium sold out!” Riggle said during Big Slick interviews earlier on Friday morning.
The Royals will look to get back on top of Detroit in the standings this weekend, the Tigers catapulted KC with a win over Cleveland on Friday night. The Royals are offering deals on tickets during this extended homestand, you can find more information about that at this link.
