Charges filed in Independence home invasion where homeowner shot suspect

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — The suspected intruder in a Wednesday home invasion remains hospitalized with shooting injuries, and he was criminally charged on Thursday. Jacob Kleckner has been charged with first-degree burglary after allegedly breaking into an Independence home, only to be shot by the homeowner.

Police say Kleckner ran out of the home in the 1300 block of McHenry Street at about 4 a.m. Wednesday after being shot and across the street where someone took him to a hospital. He is now in the custody of police at the hospital where he’s recovering from non-life threatening injuries.

The homeowner was not injured and cooperated with the police investigation. Kleckner’s bond has been set at $20,000, he does not have a first court date listed according to online records.
