KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A teenager involved in a close call at the Gardner Aquatic Center Wednesday afternoon talked with FOX 4 about the life he saved.

A three-year-old girl went under water and 15-year-old Tim Hepner said he noticed the girl struggling. A lifeguard dove in and Hepner helped the toddler get to the lifeguard.

The guard then performed CPR to get the little girl breathing again.

“I've seen car crashes and first hand and stuff, but nothing this dramatic. I didn't really do much but it was kind of scary it happened right there. Just doesn't happen like that,” Hepner said.

The girl spent the night in the hospital as a precaution.
