LEAVENWORTH, Kan. -- As the people of Leavenworth try to process the events of the last few days, "sad" is about the only word some can find.

They’ve been sharing their thoughts about the death of five-year-old Cady Harris, and the man police believe killed her. There were several people who declined to speak with FOX 4 on camera, some saying they knew Cady's family, but just about all we heard from want justice for her death.

“Everybody’s pretty much in disbelief,” said resident Randall Pallesen.

Many say they’re just simply shocked considering the age of the young victim.

"It's just hard to believe that someone actually would be at the end of the rope and be desperate enough to shoot a kid. That is really the hardest part,” Pallesen said.

With an official arrest, and formal charges to come, lots of folks in Leavenworth say they want to see justice served. Some say the tragedy has left a dark cloud over the town, but they hope something good can come from it.
