Bicyclist struck, killed in Douglas County identified

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Kan. — Police released the name of the man who was struck and killed Wednesday while biking on N. 950 Road in Douglas County as 66-year-old Cal Melick of Lawrence, Kan.

Police said Melick was struck around 12:30 p.m. Officers said he died at the scene.

Police said Melick was struck by 69-year-old Werner Anderson of Lawrence. Anderson was passing a west bound vehicle, possibly a truck, when he hit Melick, who was traveling eastbound. Anderson remained at the scene and reported the incident to police. He was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.
