KANSAS CITY, Kan. – Police are investigating after an officer shot a man who was armed with a handgun.

Kansas City, Kansas Police Department officers were on patrol Saturday around 9:30 p.m. in the 1400 block of Kansas Avenue driving when they saw a suspect in a vehicle, who they said had a felony federal warrant and was also wanted in a recent homicide. Officers initiated a pursuit which led to the 100 block of James Street where the vehicle crashed into a fence behind a building.

The suspect, a white male in his thirties, got out of the vehicle armed with a handgun. An officer fired at the suspect and struck him. The suspect sustained non-life threatening injuries and was taken to an area hospital. Police say the investigation is ongoing.
