KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Police have identified the body found in Troost Lake on Wednesday as Shawn E. Taylor, 19, of Kansas City, Mo. His cause of death is still being investigated.

The discovery of Taylor’s body had neighbors and relatives of a missing man fearing the worst. Relatives of Ezekial Willie, 22, missing since the beginning of August, watched police recover the body on Wednesday from Troost Lake in Spring Valley Park in Kansas City, Mo. At the time, relatives were worried it could be Willie, who disappeared August 2 and was last seen near the park, at 27th and Brooklyn.

“I’ve just been praying that it’s not him,” said Sonia Hill, the missing man’s aunt. “I thought we were going to be able to see a little bit more. Because the guy did have on what Zeke had on when he was last seen: blue jeans and a white tee shirt. But we couldn’t see anything. So right now we’re just crossing our fingers and praying.”

At the time Willie’s family said they were in a no-win situation. They didn’t want the body to be their loved one, but at the same time, if it wasn’t they would still be left with questions as to where Willie is.

Police say anyone with information about Taylor’s death, or information about Willie, should call the TIPS hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
