Drug dealer mistakenly texts detective

Marion, N.C. — A man in Marion was arrested Friday after mistakenly setting up a drug deal with a McDowell County Sheriff’s Office lieutenant.

According to deputies, on Friday, Sept. 26, Wayne Matthew Elliott, 40, mistakenly texted Lt. Chris Taylor, head of the Sheriff’s Office narcotics unit, and said he was looking to sell one-half gram of meth.

Taylor set up a time to meet Elliott who was in possession of meth and drug paraphernalia at the time, according to reports.

Elliott was taken into custody and charged with felony possession of methamphetamine and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
