KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- This week, FOX 4 film critics Shawn Edwards and Russ Simmons review "The Judge" and "Kill the Messenger."

Both Russ and Shawn gave "The Judge" three out of five popcorn bags.

Yet they agreed:  It's too long, predictable, and saddled with too many sub-plots.

""The Judge has plenty of flaws to cover up. Thank goodness we got Robert Downey Jr. and Robert Duvall on board to do the covering," Russ said.

As for "Kill the Messenger", Russ gave it three popcorn bags, and Shawn went one more with four popcorn bags.

They both enjoyed the performance by Jeremy Renner, who plays Gary Webb. The film is based on a true story about Webb, a Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist who accuses the CIA of starting the crack epidemic.

"At least 'Kill the Messenger' is challenging," Shawn said.

They did not have a chance to review "Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, starring Steve Carell and Jennifer Garner, but know it will be a hit among kids over the weekend.
