Nephew of missing man locates him, police cancel Silver Alert

dennis johnstonLEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. — Police and family members spent several hours searching for a missing 70-year-old man Friday morning. A nephew of the man located him around 9:30 a.m.

Police said Dennis Johnston, 70, who suffers from dementia, walked away from his home in the 3600 block of Blue Jacket Drive in Lee’s Summit around 10:15 p.m. He was not wearing shoes.

Police said a nephew of Johnston located him near 79th and Reinhart near the Kansas City-Lee’s Summit border.

Police said around 4:30 a.m. Johnston had knocked on someone’s door. Those people, unaware of a Silver Alert had been issued, did not open the door. Instead, they told called police and told them a man who was not wearing any shoes had been at their home.

Officers and K-9 units began searching for Johnston in that area. His nephew located him in the area around 9:30 a.m.
