KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- There's a buzz of activity at Kauffman Stadium Monday to get ready for big crowds with Tuesday's start of the World Series.
New food offerings more suitable for fall weather will be available for fans starting with Game One. The stadium store also is selling special World Series gear that the players will be wearing beginning Monday.
When you play baseball in October, the weather is usually more suitable for football than America's pastime.
As a result, Aramark, the food provider at the K, will have smoked crown chili, which includes Kansas City burnt ends, smoked white beans and Boulevard IPA.
Festive fare also includes caramel apples, and hot chocolate served in special World Series mugs. All of these offering are available in addition to traditional baseball food, like the Kansas City hot dog.
The Majestic team store also is stocking up to offer the largest selection of Royals World Series gear in the metro area.
"Everything from what the players are wearing on the field, what they wore the last couple of rounds, to what they will be wearing in the World Series, to some of the exclusive graphics that we carry only here at the K," said Brett Salzenstein, Aramark retail manager. "That stuff has just been flying off the shelf."
To handle the large crowds, Aramark will have 900 employees working the World Series at Kauffman Stadium.
This includes 120 vendors walking through the aisles, and six visiting chefs to make the fan experience the best it can be.
Aramark expects to serve 7,500 hot dogs and 1,400 pounds of peanuts during Game One alone.
The only place to get World Series apparel made by Under Armour is at the K.
There's also a stadium exclusive "Party Like It's 1985" tee shirt and other specialty items that are the same as what the players wear sold at the stadium.
