Armed robbery suspects in hospital after wild night

SHAWNEE, Kan. -- Two suspects are in the hospital after an armed robbery in a grocery store parking lot. It happened just before midnight on Wednesday in Shawnee, Kan.

The victim was robbed in the HyVee parking lot at 63rd and Pflumm. He wasn't hurt.

The suspects are juveniles and they were injured in a crash. The victim said the two young men approached him in the parking lot. According to Sgt. Lynch with Shawnee police, the victim said at least one of the suspects had a gun.

The victim was robbed of his wallet and cell phone. The suspects then took the victim's car, a 2010 Honda Accord.   Police actually chased the car for a short time down Shawnee Mission Parkway but lost it. A short time later, the car was found crashed near 67th and Hedge Lane. The two suspects were still inside. Both were injured and taken to Overland Park Regional Hospital where they are still being treated.

The Shawnee Police Traffic Safety Unit was called out to investigate.
