KANSAS CITY, Kan. — The Platte County Sheriff’s Office revealed on Thursday that Metro Squad investigators have identified a possible suspect in the death of Francisco Javier Vargas III. That person was taken into custody in Kansas City, Kan., at about 2 p.m. following a four-day investigation into the November 1 homicide.

No arrests or charges have been announced, but the sheriff’s office stated in a news release that the homicide investigation is ongoing and transitioning back to Platte County. Vargas, 27, was found shot to death inside his home in the 6000 block of Twin Springs Road last Saturday night.

His death is the second homicide of 2014 in Platte County. Investigators previously told FOX 4 that there were no signs of forced entry into the home and they had scoured Vargas’ backyard and neighborhood for clues. One neighbor described hearing a “thud” the night of the crime, and many others said the shooting death left them fearful and hopeful for a quick arrest.

FOX 4 will continue to follow developments with this story.
