Fire rekindles at Roeland Park home, sending mom and two teens out into the cold

ROELAND PARK, Kan. -- Fire forced a single mom and her two teenaged sons out into the cold late Wednesday night. The fire happened near 53rd and Birch in Roeland Park.

Firefighters first responded to the house fire around 7:30 p.m. The fire reportedly started in the garage and spread to the attic. The mother and her sons and two family pets escaped without injury.

Fire crews left the scene four hours later but were called back around 2:30 a.m. after the fire rekindled in the roof.

The cause is still under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
