KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A group of 15 to 20 protesters, some who laid in the middle of a closed street, staged a demonstration during the Plaza Lighting Ceremony on Thanksgiving night.

As the lights were turned on, some of the protesters laid down, others stood up and held signs, one which read: "This is not a distraction. This is our reality - the American reality." Another read: "Will you kick us off this street faster than they removed Mike's body?" referencing the fatal of shooting of Michael Brown at the hands of Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson.

The group didn't chant or cause a loud disruption, Kansas City Police Chief Darryl Forte tweeted the group didn't pose a traffic hazard and eventually dispersed.
