SHAWNEE, Kan. -- Shawnee police want your help finding out who's behind a string a car break-ins that are shattering the security of people who work along Shawnee Mission Parkway. Thieves hit four cars in the same strip mall Monday night at Shawnee Mission Parkway and Pflumm.

It's the time of the year when police say thieves don't only see cars in parking lots, they see opportunities to cash in. Monday night police say thieves bashed in car windows and made off with valuables outside of two businesses.

They broke into one of the cars near Johnny's Tavern, and the other three break-ins happened back behind Bella Dea Salon and Boutique.

“Some creep took my purse, one of the other girl’s purse, one of our poor clients he lost a few things, a weapon and a briefcase," said Heather Kendall.

Not only did hardworking salon owner Kendall have to pay to get a window fixed on her white jeep, she had to take on the added task of protecting her identity from the thief who made off with her purse.

"Cancel every credit card. Try to remember every single thing you had in your wallet," she said.

The break-ins happened around 6 p.m. on Monday, and while police search for the culprits, Kendall has this say to those who ripped her off.

“Get a job. Go get a real job. Go be a contributing citizen to this country,” she said.

Kendall says if thieves try it again, she hopes to be able to capture them on her new surveillance cameras.

If you know anything about these car break-ins you're urged to call Shawnee police or the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
