OVERLAND PARK, Kan. -- Police in Overland Park are investigating a deadly shooting in the 8300 block of Kessler.

Police said a man in his later 40s walked outside to warm up his car shortly after six Wednesday morning. Neighbors reported hearing some yelling and then multiple shots were fired. Neighbors then heard another vehicle leave the area at a high rate of speed.

Officers arrived and found the victim -- a black male in his 40s -- dead in the street near his car. Police at this time don't know if the man was targeted or if the gunman tried to steal the man's car.

Police continue their investigation.
