Spring Hill man charged in roommate’s homicide

MIAMI COUNTY, Kan. — The Miami County District Attorney’s Office announced that a second-degree murder charge was filed against Mark Taylor, 52, on Tuesday. Taylor is accused of fatally shooting 56-year-old Larry Rangel, who was found dead in his home on Saturday. Police say that Taylor and Rangel were roommates.

Taylor was arrested on Saturday after he and a friend drove to the Miami County Sheriff’s Office and his friend told deputies that Taylor had shot someone. Taylor was arrested on scene for warrants out of Johnson County, Kan. and police say he was also carrying a handgun at the time.

Authorities then went to the home where Taylor and Rangel livedĀ at in the 21900 block of W. 220th Street in rural Spring Hill and found Rangel’s body. The sheriff’s office previously stated it had been sent to the home before regarding a disturbance.

Taylor is being held in custody on a $1,000,000 cash or surety bond
