RAYTOWN, Mo. -- Investigators believe alcohol may have played a role in an incident Wednesday night where a Raytown Police Department squad car was hit while an officer was inside. The police department stated in a press release that the officer was in the process of a crash investigation in the 9600 block of E. 350 Highway when another driver hit his car.

A woman who works near the crash scene said a customer came into her store and said that the other driver tried to flee, but the officer drew his gun and the driver stopped. The police department did not immediately confirm those details to a FOX 4 crew at the scene, but do say the incident is under investigation.

A police spokesperson says the officer was taken to a hospital for an evaluation due to protocol,  but say it was a precautionary move.
