FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A Florida teen saved the life of a police officer by quickly responding when the officer collapsed.

Jamal Rutledge, was at the Fort Lauderdale police booking facility, when officer Franklin Foulks collapsed in his chair.

Rutledge, although in handcuffs, immediately began yelling for help.

Officers responded to the teen’s calls and performed CPR. They also called for an AED, an automated external defibrillator.

Fire crews also responded to the scene and transported Foulks to a nearby hospital.

Doctors have commended the teen for his quick thinking and said if Rutledge had not responded so fast, the officer could have died.

Rutledge and the responding officers will be recognized at the City of Fort Lauderdale Commission meeting later this month.
