Olathe man charged with aggravated battery after accident that kills one man

OLATHE, Kan. – An Olathe man has been charged with aggravated battery after the Jan. 11 accident that fatally injured a man.

Jeremy Michael Claerhout, 42, was driving south on Ridgeview Road when he struck 32-year-old Christopher Willdermood’s vehicle according to police.

Willdermood was transported to an area hospital when crews arrived on scene and has been pronounced brain dead but remains on life support.

The accident took place around 10:05 p.m. in the 1300 block of south Ridgeview Road.

Reports said Claerhout, who was driving a pickup truck, rear ended Willdermood’s vehicle causing him to run off of the road.

Police tests showed that Claerhout had a blood alcohol level of .08 or more around the time of the accident.

A DUI charge has not yet been added to Claerhout’s charges.

Claerhout and the two others that were in the pickup truck during the accident were not injured.

Claerhout was charged for the crime Jan. 13 and booked on a $250,000 bond.

The next scheduled court hearing is Jan. 22, 2015.
