KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A woman’s piano playing talents have done more than just entertain a crowd.

Phyllis Lamonte is a volunteer piano player at New Mark Care Center where her large Italian-American family joined in for the big surprise.

“She donates her time to the nursing homes and goes to five different nursing homes and plays the piano, entertains the people,” Jane Rutherford said.

Rutherford said she wants Phyllis to use the three hundred dollars to treat herself.

“She lights up the room when she comes in,” Rutherford said.

Phyllis thought she was needed to play for a birthday when she entered the nursing home.

“I brought you here today because I want to give you some recognition for all the good that you do and donating your time for everything and everyone and we love you so much,” Rutherford told Lamonte.
