KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Police are investigating after a gunshot hit a school bus Wednesday afternoon near 24th and Park.

Two people were involved in a shootout following a fight, one in a house and one near a house at 24th and Brooklyn, when the bus was caught in the crossfire according to KCPD. Police said a bullet entered the back of the bus in between two lights and traveled from the back of the bus  over the driver's head and out through the front

The bus was carrying students from Genesis School and Banneker Academy and was not the target. No injuries were reported and some parents picked their kids up at the scene and other students were taken home by another bus.

The school went on lockdown following the event because children were playing outside of the other school, according to police.

Police said there were 27 students on board at the time. Police also reported they have two suspects in custody.
