KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A guest at a Kansas City motel got a painful and sudden wake up call on Tuesday. Investigators say shortly after 3 a.m. the man was sound asleep when a stray bullet shattered a first floor window to his motel room, and hit the apparent innocent victim in his leg.

The man was treated at the hospital and is expected to be okay.

"I woke up after hearing all the commotion, " said Brian Patrick, who's staying at the motel on a week-long business trip.

"I heard some tires screeching, some people arguing and then I heard two gunshots and then there was a pause of maybe ten or 20 seconds, and I heard a third gunshot. It was so crazy because it's a nice area," added Patrick.

Police say a bullet also hit a post outside. According to police, several people were involved in a heated disturbance outside in the motel's parking lot when gunshots rang out.

Right now, it is unclear if the unidentified people were motel guests are not.

"There was a big disturbance because I heard it and I looked out my window and could see people just kind of running around in the dark, " said Patrick.

Police say at least four suspects were involved. Windows on two trucks were also shattered. Anyone with information should call the TIPS Hotline at (816) 474-TIPS.
