Police arrest 4 at Independence motel following attempted armed robbery

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. — Police ended a brief standoff with armed robbery suspects at a Super 8 Motel near Interstate 70 and S. Noland Road on Thursday afternoon.

The incident began when an officer on patrol drove by the motel at about 3:30 p.m. and saw a group of four allegedly armed people attempting to rob someone in the parking lot. One person was immediately taken into custody and the other three ran into the motel and barricaded themselves in a room.

The standoff ended at about 4:15 when those three surrendered and were placed under arrest. The first person who was detained got into an altercation with officers and was taken to a hospital as a precaution. Police said the suspect was not shot or tased, but didn’t elaborate any further about the nature of the altercation.
