KANSAS CITY, Mo. —  A 28-year-old man faces a robbery charge after police say he held a 7-Eleven clerk at gunpoint on Saturday night so he could steal a 12 pack of Bud Ice and a single Black and Mild cigar.

Brandon Strozier has been charged with first-degree robbery and armed criminal action according to Jackson County prosecutors.

According to a probable cause statement, Strozier and another man went to the convenience store at 10615 Blue Ridge Boulevard and approached the register like they were going to make a purchase. After the clerk rang up the beer and cigar, police say Strozier pulled out a handgun and pointed it at the clerk.

The clerk backed away and Strozier and the other man left the store, but were arrested about five blocks away with beer in hand. Officers also say in the probable cause that they found Strozier had a loaded 9 mm handgun in his coat.

Both men denied knowing anything about the robbery when interviewed by police, but only Strozier has been charged so far. Strozier previously served prison time in Missouri between 2008 and 2012 for a first-degree assault conviction.
