KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A Kansas City woman faces a murder charge for the stabbing death of another woman, court documents say the suspect was provoked by a fight over cigarettes. Levolia Kelso faces a second-degree murder charge and armed criminal action in the death of 19-year-old Mikelle Green.

The stabbing happened at an apartment at Linwood and Bellefontaine. Court documents indicate Green had been staying at Kelso's apartment and wanted Kelso to get cigarettes for her on Saturday morning, but Kelso refused and later asked Green to leave the apartment.

Green refused to leave and then stepped on a computer, and the two began fighting. The fight ended when police say Kelso stabbed Green 12 times. Kelso told detectives once she realized what she had done; she attempted first aid and called 911, but couldn’t revive her.
