KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The family of the 27-year-old woman, whose body was found inside a well near the Missouri River on Thursday, Feb. 19, is asking for the community’s help in finding out what happened to her.
Janina Vasquez was discovered at about 1 p.m., in a 25-feet-deep well owned by the city at Richard Berkley, 101 North Lydia, near Front Street and River Front Road.
In a statement released a week after her death, her family requested anonymous information:
“Janina “Nina” Vasquez was our beloved daughter and sister. We appreciate the community’s support in our time of mourning. As we search for closure we ask that anyone with knowledge of Janina’s whereabouts between Wednesday February 11th and Thursday February 19th 2015 come forward and call the anonymous tips hotline at 816-474-8477.
Just before she left home she said she was going to spend the night with Allen and Nicole. We believe Allen and Nicole may have been among the last people to see Janina alive. Therefore, we ask that Alan or Nicole, or anyone who may know Alan and Nicole to please call the anonymous tips hotline at 816-474-8477. “
Police say it is not possible that the woman flowed in from the river due to the kind of well the body was found in, but had to have been placed inside of it, so they consider her death suspicious.
Investigators do not know exactly how long she had been there, but say she had been there for a little while.
