KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- One person is dead after a double shooting that happened on Wednesday night.

Police said the shooting occurred in the parking lot of Tony's Market, which is a gas station at 31st and Mersington.  The gas station is on the east side of Kansas City.

Two people were shot according to Kansas City police. Police said both victims were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries where one was later pronounced dead.

A family member of one of the victims spoke to Fox 4. Arthur Stafford Sr., father of the victim killed, said two people ran up to the car his son was in and started shooting. He said the other person who was shot was standing outside the car talking to his son.

Stafford tells Fox 4 his son was 21 years old, an aspiring rapper who was going back to school and trying to get his life back together. He said he is staying strong for the family, but is not surprised this happened.

Police say they are searching for at least one suspect at this time and are trying to piece together what lead up to gunfire.  Police also say there were plenty of people at the gas station at the time of the shooting, and hope someone comes forward with information.

Police ask you to call the TIPS Hotline, (816) 474-TIPS with information that can help police make an arrest.
