Exclusive video of explosion on surveillance camera:
GRANDVIEW, Mo. -- Residents in the area of 138th and Botts Road reported an explosion that shook their homes on Wednesday morning. The Grandview Fire Department confirmed that the explosion happened at about 4:30 a.m. at the Corbion plant, and three people suffered minor injuries.
Grandview Fire Chief Ronald Graham said the explosion blew out a wall up to seven stories tall, and it's fortunate the injuries weren't worse.
"People were already evacuating the building, so we did not have to rescue anybody at the time, they were already out. We treated them and transported three to the hospital, put out the fire, and now they're inside trying to determine what the cause was," Chief Graham said.
The plant makes chemicals for food products, and the explosion blew out the east wall. Fox 4's Kathy Quinn reports the scene is now under investigation and the explosion may have been triggered in a dust collector.
Of the three people taken to the hospital, two have already been released. Grandview Fire Marshal Lewis Austin says it may be months before the plant reopens.
