SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — Despite the tragic events that occurred in Springfield, Mo. Monday evening, a father and daughter duo took it upon themselves to show law enforcement how much they appreciate their service.

Photojournalist for the Springfield News-Leader Nathan Papes posted a photo on Twitter Monday night that captured the father and daughter’s kind gesture.

In the photo the father and his four-year-old can be seen hanging a banner that says “thank you for keeping us safe!” In front of the banner there is a stool with cookies and a case of water bottles sitting beside the stool.

The tweet that accompanied the photo said:

“This was a bright spot during today’s tragic events. A 4-year-old and her dad put out cookies and water for police.”

The kind gesture followed a standoff at a Springfield apartment that ended with three dead.

51-year-old William R. Williams died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The cause of death for his two children, four-year-old Brodie Williams and two-year-old Marley William has not yet been released.
