Northern California police officer shot to death

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities say a Northern California police officer has been shot to death after responding to a call about a man threatening to kill himself.

The San Jose Police Department says responding officers were met with gunfire Tuesday night. A veteran officer was struck and pronounced dead at the scene.

Officers have closed off several streets in the area as they search for the shooter.

Authorities say all San Jose police resources are being used, and outside help has been requested.

The officer was not identified.
