BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. -- A Bonner Springs couple wants to find and thank the man who caught their five-year-old daughter after she climbed over the rail of an escalator and fell off.

Joe Profeta said his daughter, Alex, was at Oak Park Mall last Saturday with her grandmother and great-grandmother. Profeta says his in-laws stopped to fill out a sweepstakes card when the sound of frantic screams caught their attention.

Profeta said his daughter was dangling off the side of the escalator as it ascended to the second level.

“I do believe there are angels out there watching over us and the gentleman was there at the right time and right place,” said Profeta.

Profeta says he wants to meet the man who saved his daughter’s life so he can personally thank him. While the incident was scary for Alex, she says it won’t stop her from going on escalators.

“I promised daddy I won’t get on that anymore without my family,” said Alex.

The man who caught Alex at the mall said a number of things put him in the right place at the right time. The reunion with the once anonymous hero happens on FOX 4 News at 9 and 10 on Tuesday night.
