Poppy, the dog hit by a train, may be released as early as Friday, according to veterinarians at Blue Pearl Veterinary Partners.

Poppy shattered her femur and injured her hip and ear in the train accident. Her medical bills are expected to exceed $12,000.

Great Plains SPCA did find Poppy’s family, but they agreed to give her to the shelter.

If she’s released on Friday, she’ll go to a foster home.

Poppy was hit by the train over the weekend in Sibley, Mo., and taken to Independence where she was stabilized and then transferred to Blue Pearl.
