KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- One man is dead and two others are fighting for their lives after the car they were driving hit a tree and flipped over early Thursday morning.

According to police the driver of a white BMW picked up two men from a house on Thompson Street around 3 a.m. and began speeding toward Askew.

The driver lost control two blocks later and hit a tree and flipped the car, according to police.

Police said one man was thrown from the car, the other two were trapped. None of the men were wearing seat belts.

"You know slow down and wear your seat belt," Sgt. Deb Randol said. "Like I said, I guess it's the middle the night but that doesn't mean there's not gonna be someone out crossing the street to get in their car, in the event you don't have kids out but you never now. You just have to slow down."

Paramedics rushed the three men to the hospital where one later died.

During the investigation, police said they discovered the BMW was stolen from Omaha.

Police said they are not sure if the victims are from Omaha or how they gained possession of the stolen vehicle.
