KANSAS CITY, Mo. –A  three-vehicle accident near Emanuel Cleaver II and Prospect Wednesday left one person dead and one person in critical condition.

Investigators said that a Dodge car was heading northbound around noon when it collided with a Pontiac that was heading westbound. Police said the collision pushed the Pontiac into the middle of the road where it was hit by a dump truck that was heading east.

The four passengers inside of the Pontiac were transported to the hospital to be treated for injuries. One of the passengers died shortly after arriving at the hospital. Police described the victim as an adult female but did not release the victim’s name. A second adult female passenger is still listed in critical condition.

Police said the driver of the Dodge drove away from the scene, but returned shortly after and was arrested by police.
