KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- The Boulevard Member’s Club at Sporting Park is hosting a watch party for anyone who wants to watch Team USA face off in the Women's World Cup Monday night. The event is free to get in, but those who attend will have to buy their own food and drink.
Team USA is the favorite to win it all.
This year, the World Cup is in Canada and there is some controversy. All the games are being played on astro turf, which changes the style of play because the women are used to playing soccer on grass.
Four of the women on the national team also play for FCKC in the National Women’s Soccer League including Lauren Holiday, Becky Sauerbraun, Heather O’Reilly and Amy Rodriguez.
"The standard is very high, that’s something we all knew going into this, yeah, we accept it, and we have very high standards for ourselves so I think no one expects excellence more than ourselves, so we’ll take it," O'Reilly said.
Four years ago, Team USA lost in the championship game to Japan.
