GRAIN VALLEY, Mo. -- Fire burned through the roof of a Missouri business, causing thick black smoke that people could see for miles on Friday evening. Advantage Truck Sales was still smoking as the sun set after witnesses say something at the business exploded, and the roof collapsed.

An employee had just closed the business and left the parking lot when he said he heard the explosion. No one was inside or injured. Witnessers told FOX 4's Megan Brilley they could see the flames all the way in Blue Springs and it was a very chaotic, emotional scene when they got closer.

"It's spooky. It's scary. A lot of dreams are built up in that place. It's weird," prior owner Chuck Smith said.

"When people were hugging each other and running around I thought someone was inside. I thought something happened," witness Anthony Tellado said.

"The feeling is I just hope everyone is okay. I've heard everyone was, so I'm pretty happy about that," witness Brenton Leighow said.

Firefighters do not know what caused the fire, and remained on scene investigating Friday night.
