KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One person is dead after an accident late Thursday night.

Police said that the accident happened in a northbound I-435 lane near 169 Highway around 10:40 p.m.

Sgt. Bill Mahoney says a tractor-trailer broadsided a car that was parked sideways across the two-lane highway just east of the N. Woodland exit. Police said the tractor-trailer hit the passenger door of the car.

The driver of the car died.

Investigators said the driver of the tractor-trailer was not impaired when the accident occurred and he was being cooperative.

Sgt. Mahoney says it’s really dark in the area of the accident and the semi driver didn’t see the car until it was too late.

Police have not released the identity of the person who died but did say that it was a woman from the Kansas City area.
