Police search for suspect after shooting, attempted robbery at Olympic Grill

INDEPENDENCE, Mo. -- Police are looking for a suspect following a shooting and attempted robbery at Olympic Grill on Wednesday night. Police say the suspect entered the restaurant and  and demanded money from the victim and then shot him with a handgun.  The victim is described as a man in his 70's. The man is currently listed in serious condition, but expected to survive.

Independence police say that the suspect fled and headed east on 38th St. after the shooting without getting any cash.

The restaurant is located in the 9100 block of U.S. Highway 40 and the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. Independence police requested KCPD's helicopter for assistance and were still looking for the suspect as Wednesday night turned in to Thursday morning.

The suspect is described as a slender black man who was wearing a dark bandanna over his face. The only further description is that he's approximately 5'9" and was wearing a dark shirt.
