KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- A bicyclist who was struck near 45th and Indiana on Monday afternoon died at a local hospital according to police. The emergency was reported just after 4:30 p.m.

Someone driving a pickup truck struck the victim, who is a 57-year-old man, in the center of an intersection. Witnesses say the victim rode through a stop sign when he was struck.

The driver of the pickup truck stayed at the scene and cooperated with investigators, and was visibly upset.

"He's pretty shaken up. He was on his way from work, I don't think anybody can anticipate this so it's pretty tough on him and will be later when he has time to reflect on it," KCPD Sergeant Bill Mahoney said.

Alcohol has been ruled out as a cause of the accident.
